This week at CES 2016 in Las Vegas, Nikon unveiled their first ever 360-degree focussing action camera: the KeyMission 360. According to the world leaders in imaging and optics products, this new product will be known as the parent camera the new Nikon family of action cameras. It’s their first entry in this market and they’re planning to provide some tough competition to the already popular GoPro action cameras.

Nikon has not made any announcements regarding availability, release date, technical specifications and price, but we will update this article as soon as the information lands on our desk. One of the company’s representative at CES 2016 did tell us they’re now developing a full range of mounts and accessories that will be available once the camera goes on sale officially.

What we have also learned is that this action camera features an image sensor and lens on opposite sides of the device. The camera combines images from each side into a single immersive, ultra high-definition 360-degree video and still image. Another cool feature is the electronic vibration reduction, which reduces the effects of camera shake and ultimately helps to product a sharp and crisp video. Furthermore the camera looks easy to use and can withstand the elements by being water- and shockproof.

According to Corey Rich, the famous action photographer, one of the unique features of this camera is it’s supreme audio quality that matches its already impressive video capabilities. All in all the new Nikon KeyMission 360 looks like a great companion for a wide range of outdoor adventures. With such nice tech, we can’t wait to take it up the mountain and test it thoroughly. Its release is scheduled for Spring 2016.

Update: today at CES 2016 we found out this action camera also has built-in Bluetooth and Wi-Fit for easily connecting the camera with a nearby smart device.
