After almost 25 years of success with the iconic Custom, the mad scientist at Burton have brought this board to a whole new level with the 2017 Burton Custom Mystery snowboard. The design team blended their top secret Mystery technology with the Custom’s iconic shape, to create the lightest snowboard Burton has every build. The end result is an aggressive all-mountain powerhouse that practically flies over any terrain you take it on, without hesitation.
Its design features the classic Directional Twin shape that provides all-around board control and helps you to boost of your tail. It also adds floatation and flow when you’re riding on powder. The Traditional Camber profile has camber from insert to insert, but outside the feat are subtle flat zones that lead into an early-rise rocker. This profile gives the board a smoother, less catchy feel that many park riders will like. The board’s medium flex enables a balanced ride that feels and responses the same. Whether you’re riding regular or switch you can expect a similar and constant performance.
On snow, this board belongs to one of the most stable ones we tested so far. Even on the most rougher terrain, it remained stable with a minimal amount of vibrations underfoot. Because this board is quite stiff you have to work it to enjoy it properly. It’s definitely more an all-mountain freerider than a freestyler. When it comes to speeding: the faster you’re going the easier it gets. Overall, the 2017 Burton Custom Mystery snowboard is a stable riding and aggressive feeling deck. It caters to freerider that has no problem with a ride with the force of a semi-truck. However, all the high tech does come at a price.
