Fusing a soulful freeride spirit with easy-floating finesse, the 2017 Burton Flight Attendant snowboard makes easy work of slashing through the trees, popping off pillows, and railing carves with precision. As one of our favorites of the 2015 – 2016 season, this board is build for backcountry riding. The secret to its intuitive ability to take on natural terrain and fresh powder is the board’s Freeride Geometry.
This particular feature combines a Tapered Directional shape with a setback camber and an early-rise nose, allowing this board to float almost effortlessly in deep snow without cannibalizing on its ability to ride aggressively on soft groomers or to lay steep lines above the tree-line. The board’s special thin core increases the energy transfer and makes turn initiation much easier. All in all this setup creates a snowboard that is surprisingly nimble for darting in the trees and ripping carves at the resort.
Over the last two years, not much has changed with this board. The team at Burton took the same formula they used for the Burton Landlord. By slightly reducing the board’s taper and giving it a more blunt nose and tail. However, a big plus for this year is that there are a lot more sizes to choose from. On snow, this board feels like a fun groomer and powder friendly deck that backcountry fans will enjoy. When you head onto deep powder you will notice the board’s massive nose enables it to float stable. Giving an almost surfy feel. While it’s not super quick when turning it does handle tight turns really well. It’s nicely balanced for straight-lining or racing through trees.
In you know how to properly turn and carve a board then this one will make you happy. Although it’s not that snappy it does go quick from edge-to-edge, allowing you to lay down some nice medium to wide turns. Once you pick up some speed you will discover this board is capable of riding really fast. Without getting very chattery on fast long runs. On hard snow, the edge hold was pretty good, while on uneven terrain this board didn’t bounce around.
All in all, we had lots of fun with this board. If you like camber but want something that’s a bit more forgiving and offers good floatation, then the 2017 Burton Flight Attendant is a proper choice. A cool feature we discovered is the GPS coordinates on the graphic that pinpoint where the photo was taken.
