Developed in cooperation with professional guides from across North America, the all-new 2017 Burton Gate Keeper snowboard is build to handle everything the backcountry can throw at you. From hair-raising steeps to waist-deep powder and ice-covered crust. With floatation and speed as their priority, Burton gave this board a Tapered Directional shape with a mostly camber profile. Combined with the large rockered nose, this setup helps it to glide through powder and pick up speed on flat sections. The board’s edge hold and explosive push are there to conquer the most demanding fall lines.
This board does look a bit like the Flight Attendant, which is also a freeride special board. On snow, this board feels nice and stable underfoot and has the mixed character off a charger and a cruiser. Being a bit more catchy this board is definitely build for the more experienced riders. This board’s edge hold is capable as it grips nicely on both soft powder and harder surfaces. Turning is quite easy, especially if you have a smaller booth size. On faster sections, this board rides stable and comfortable, with a minimal amount of chatter. On uneven terrain, we could feel the bumps but this boards flex allows you to navigate around them.
Although this board doesn’t have that much rocker in its profile, the large provides a good amount of float on the deep powder areas. Overall, the 2017 Burton Gate Keeper snowboard is quite a technical deck that’s not too aggressive. After taking on the backcountry you can also enjoy a surfy ride on the mellower runs. If you are looking for a board that handles any terrain in a variety of conditions, this one holds the key.
