The 2017 CAPiTA Charlie Slasher snowboard is a legendary powder deck well-known for its capability to cruise over bottomless snow with a minimal amount of effort. In case you want to turn this board into a splitboard, its core features a strip of ABS running down the center so you have built-in sidewalls when you split it. Just like older versions of this board it features a Tapered Directional shape combined with a Flat to Rocker profile.
With a rockered nose that’s 22mm wider than the tail, this board is almost impossible to sink. No matter how deep the snow gets. This super floaty feel also helps you to ride away from situations you are not yet comfortable with. Flat camber sections placed through the rest of the board give the stability needed for turning. Especially when you switch to riding chopped up snow on groomers. It also helps you to stomp your landings off natural features. Special carbon beams in the front half of the board increase pop and response plus reduces chatter. They also enable more control when you are riding fast. On snow, this board feels stable underfoot. It’s not catchy but very aggressive.
Short and wider turns are doable but feel less dynamic and snappy. This board has less spring out of the turn but it’s ok for groomers. Other boards offer a more exciting ride for carving. Although this board floats really well on powder, you will need to put some extra effort into it with your back-legs. Because CAPiTA improved the board’s base it now glides even better at speed. On rougher terrain this board remain stable and comfortable. The edge hold is good without being too sketchy. Overall, the 2017 CAPiTA Charlie Slasher is a nice snowboard for those of use who are looking for a surfy powder deck on a budget. Although it’s powder focussed it doesn’t shy away from riding on groomed slopes.
