As a product of real riding testing, feedback, and creativity, the 2017 GNU Riders Choice belongs to the very best of all-mountain freestyle. As one of the most versatile board’s in GNU’s lineup this deck offers a balanced, natural-feeling ride. Build to take on everything, from the park and pipe to technical slopes and fresh deep powder. This makes it loved by everyone, from bros to pros.
The board’s innovative profile features a subtle blend of rocker between the bindings and camber outside the bindings. This combination provides enhanced float in powder, catch-free riding on harder snow as well as the response and stability needed for high speeds. The board’s core has aspen wood running down the middle and a poplar blend on the toe edge. Combined this gives lightweight strength and a nice amount of pop. One snow, this board feels quite loose between the feet, and a bit less stable when compared to the GNU Space Case. Still, no problem to go around the mountain and freestyle. Turning is easy as it goes quick from edge-to-edge. It’s not super spring but it will hold most turns without washing out.
The board’s base is fast but the rocker between the bindings makes it feel shaky and less stable. On uneven terrain, this board remains comfortable while being easy to maneuver through bumps. Being twin shaped this board is such a joy to switch. Overall, the 2017 GNU Riders Choice offers a well-rounded ride that covers more places than we expected. It’s a great choice for those of us who like to have a freestyle blast on the mountain while also spending time at the park.
